How Ian Fleming Ruined My Shoe

The life of Ian Fleming is slated for a new movie, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. In fact, Fleming led a rather interesting life and worked for a time as a secret service agent. He used his experiences in writing the James Bond novels. Interestingly, he took the name James Bond from an author of bird books! He later apologized to the man for making his name synonymous with the fictional hero of the Bond novels. Fleming lived in Jamaica while writing the novels, and he incorporated the location into Dr. No and other stories. There is no question that when I was younger I was hooked on James Bond novels. The first one I read was Dr. No., followed by Goldfinger . . . and most of the others. I was so interested in becoming a secret agent like Bond that once I even carved out a hole in the heel of my shoe to hide secret documents. I ruined the shoe and when wearing it had to walk with a limp.
